MARY B. HARRINGTON

PAINTING + MIXED MEDIA

ARTIST BIO

Painters must speak through paint – not through words.
-Hans Hofmann

My work is primarily figurative. The process is one of push and pull, adding and subtracting paint. I use rags, brushes and palate knife to achieve a textural quality. Much of the time the pieces create themselves, contrary to what my original idea may have been. The ambiguity of setting allows the viewer to interpret the work in various ways.

I search for the harmony in the duality of stasis and movement, solidity of form and diffusion, union and solitude. I strive to capture a set moment in time, which is also inherently transient.

My hope is that the work speaks to you.
